THE STARTER REPORTED: a) On arriving at the start Jockey G van Niekerk expressed concern with PINOT GRIGIO's action during the canter past. This colt was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race. b) BLACKBERRY MALT (C Little) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. c) PINOT GRIGIO (G van Niekerk) and TENPENNY (JP van der Merwe) made contact leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (14h54) b) In view of the performance of AFRIQUE (C Murray), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey K de Melo was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of BETTER MAN he misused his crop by striking BETTER MAN more than 12 times (14) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey K de Melo signed an admission of guilt and was fined R4 000,00. d) TENPENNY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer PP Kruyer was advised. Stirrup rub right side. b) KATSU - blowing THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
