THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FOCAL POINT (J Gates) was nervous in the stalls. b) BRIGHT ERUPTION (C Zackey) and LOOKING GOOD (K Minnie) were nervous in the stalls and slow into stride. c) GLOBAL CHIEF (X Ndlovu) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (11h49) b) BRIGHT ERUPTION (C Zackey) jumped awkwardly inwards and made slight contact with SUN ECLIPSE (C Little) shortly after the start. c) DOWN TOWN CODY (E Webber) took a number of awkward strides shortly after the start and thereafter Jockey E Webber reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) RIVER FERN (*B Soodoo) was carried out slightly by OVERTURE (W Agrella), which shifted sharply outwards away from the crop at the 350m. e) At approximately the 150m SUSURRANDO (MK Katjedi), which shifted slightly outwards, made contact with BOMBER STREAM (*J Botes), which shifted slightly inwards away from the crop. f) The saddle on MAGNUS THE GOOD (L Mxothwa) slipped back in running. This was confirmed on the patrol film. g) Jockey C Zackey reported that he felt something amiss with BRIGHT ERUPTION. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer DG Smith was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. h) Jockey J Gates reported that FOCAL POINT did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. i) In view of the performance of RIVER FERN (*B Soodoo) (Betting 9/2; Distance 8.85 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. Trainer K Mitchley was advised to report back should she find anything amiss with this filly on her return to the stables. j) OVERTURE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
