THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SPLICETHEMAINBRACE (C Habib) stood awkwardly in the stalls. b) HONORABLE MEMBER (L Mxothwa) was nervous in the stalls and slow into stride. c) QUEEN OF LOVE (K Minnie) and HOERIKWAGGO (R Fourie) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (14h52) b) Permission was granted for EAST COAST GIRL (C Zackey) to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start. c) After being slow to begin and in a slow run race, HOERIKWAGGO (R Fourie) commenced to over race, was restrained and taken in behind runners between the 1500m and the 1300m. Jockey R Fourie appeared before the Board and was questioned with regard to his ride on HOERIKWAGGO. He explained that, after being slow to begin, this filly raced keenly behind runners in the early part of the race. He therefore wanted to give her time to recover at the top of the straight and he commenced to ride her from the 300m. He further advised that, in his opinion, this filly needs to be brought back in distance to the 1400m, which he will discuss with the Trainer. d) Jockeys A Fortune (ENCHANTING CHOICE) and C Zackey (EAST COAST GIRL) reported that their respective mounts did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Trainer DG Smith was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with EAST COAST GIRL on her return to the stables. e) SPLICETHEMAINBRACE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Boyers, acting on behalf of Trainer AC Greeff, was advised. (LM) JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES: a) Nil. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) ENCHANTING CHOICE - examined post-race. Not striding out left front. b) EAST COAST GIRL - examined post-race. Nothing obvious detected. c) HONORABLE MEMBER - brush wound left hind. SCRATCHED: a) STRAWBERRY THIEF - no transport. (declared 05h30 on 20260115)
