THE STARTER REPORTED: a) REAL WAR (X Ndlovu) jumped inwards and thereafter, was slow into stride. b) MASKED VIGILANTE (K Minnie) and DIABLO (*B Soodoo) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (13h37) b) Permission was granted for GALE WARNING (*I Taka) to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start. c) GALE WARNING (*I Taka) proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led riderless by a Handler, causing a delay. This gelding is suspended indefinitely in terms of Rule 93.2.4 until such time as he proves tractable proceeding to the start on a race day. Apprentice I Taka was charged with a contravention of Rule 61.3.4 in that he attempted to avoid his duty to ride GALE WARNING to the start by getting into the human ambulance. He was subsequently ordered by the Stipendiary Stewards to get out of the ambulance and attend to his duty to ride GALE WARNING to the start. Apprentice I Taka signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R2000.00. In consideration of mitigation of penalty, the Board took into account that GALE WARNING was a difficult ride. d) SPEED RACER stumbled badly shortly after the start and unbalanced Apprentice G Dookhit for a number of strides. Thereafter, SPEED RACER (*G Dookhit) made contact with REAL WAR (X Ndlovu), which jumped inwards. In this incident, the hindquarters of SPEED RACER (*G Dookhit) were turned inwards. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine SPEED RACER (*G Dookhit). e) CURTISS CONDOR (C Zackey) was hanging in from the 200m. f) GALE WARNING (*I Taka) was hanging in from the 150m. g) Jockey R Fourie (KINGS AGAIN) accidentally dropped his crop at the 150m. h) GALILEO STAR, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer DG Smith was advised. (LM) i) GALE WARNING, unplaced, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Z Oosthuizen was advised. (LM) JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES: a) GALE WARNING raced without a compression mask and with pacifiers and ear muffs. (declared 07h53 on 20260122) RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) SPEED RACER - examined post-race. Not striding out right hind. b) CURTISS CONDOR - coughing. c) KINGS AGAIN - scalp wound left hind. d) ONE TOO MANY - coughing. e) MASKED VIGILANTE - coughing. f) REAL WAR - choked up.
