During the loading process BEST OF ALL (S Khumalo) became fractious and broke through the front gates. This colt bolted the course and was subsequently withdrawn by the Veterinary Surgeon. Thereafter, during the resumption of the loading process the saddle on NATHAN DETROIT (D Daniels) slipped backwards and this gelding had to be released from the stalls and was subsequently withdrawn by the Starter as they were unable to resaddle NATHAN DETROIT. This led to a significant delay to the start of this race. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) During the loading process BEST OF ALL (S Khumalo) became fractious and broke through the front gates. This colt bolted the course and was subsequently scratched by the Veterinary Surgeon. b) During the resumption of the loading process the saddle on NATHAN DETROIT (D Daniels) slipped backwards. This gelding was unable to be resaddled and was withdrawn.. c) HOLLYWOOD HEIRESS (*D Pillay) lost 3 lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. d) SAIL THE HORIZON (S Moodley) lost 2 lengths. e) GREEN TICKET (S Hlengwa) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED (DA) : a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. b) In view of the Starter's report with regard to BEST OF ALL (S Khumalo), this colt's starting stall certificate is withdrawn and it is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as it proves tractable with a companion. (Suspension dates: 26.01.2026 to the 01.02.2026). BEST OF ALL may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Trainer G van Zyl (Jnr) will be advised. c) At the 250m MOUNT KENNEDY (A Mgudlwa) fell, dislodging Jockey A Mgudlwa. Shortly thereafter SAIL THE HORIZON (S Moodley) was steadied inwards to avoid the fallen horse and rider. Jockey A Mgudlwa was attended to by the course paramedics and thereafter was transported to hospital for further assessment. MOUNT KENNEDY was attended to and treated by the Veterinary Surgeon. d) SAIL THE HORIZON (S Moodley) hung in throughout. e) In view of the performance of HOLLYWOOD HEIRESS (*D Pillay) (18.50 lengths, 25/2 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) Jockey A Mgudlwa (MOUNT KENNEDY) was unable to weigh in and in terms of Rule 66.2 the Board deemed his weight to be correct. g) WINTER IN LONDON (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D C Howells was advised (DZ). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Nil. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) MOUNT KENNEDY : Severe distress. No response to treatment. Humanely euthanized. (Specimens taken for analysis). b) HOLLYWOOD HEIRESS : Not striding out right hind. c) HIGHVELD STORM : Post-race distress and coughing. SCRATCHINGS : a) BEST OF ALL : Bolted the course (withdrawn by the Veterinary Surgeon at 12h17, 5/10 in the betting). b) NATHAN DETROIT : Delaying the start (withdrawn by the Starter at 12h21, 150/1 in the betting).
