THE STARTER REPORTED: a) VARACHINO'S CHAMP (+T Matsoele) was restless in the stalls. b) POWER OF TIGER (+T Ncume), HURRICANE POWER (+C Mabaya) and EL ZANI (+P Mlangeni) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels, and no retests were recorded. b) Approaching the 500m, HURRICANE POWER (+C Mabaya) was carried in by WISPINTHEWILLOW (+T Demont), which shifted in. Thereafter, at approximately the 150m, SEVEN TIMES RED (+S B Mthembu) was carried in by WISPINTHEWILLOW (+T Demont), which continued to shift in. Jockey T Demont (WISPINTHEWILLOW) appeared before the Board and was advised to make more of an effort to keep his mounts straight in races. He was further advised to ride his mounts out to the end of the race with a sufficient amount of determination and vigour so as to leave no room for query from the Stewards. c) Work Rider I Lukhele reported that he felt something amiss with SPEEDWELL QUEEN in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning SPEEDWELL QUEEN, and in terms of Rule 93.1, this mare is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. Trainer C J Lensley was advised. e) Trainer A P Peter was charged with a contravention of Rule 39.7.5 in that he failed to vaccinate EL ZANI against Equine Influenza in accordance with the programme of vaccinations as published from time to time in the Racing Calendar. Assistant Trainer P A Peter signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1000. f) VARACHINO'S CHAMP (+T Matsoele), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F P Habib advised (MduP). WORK RIDER CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) SPEEDWELL QUEEN coughing post-race; bilateral epistaxis, recommended 60-day suspension. Trainer C J Lensley was advised (MB). b) AMAZE ME coughing post-race.
