THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) FROM THE ISLAND (M Yeni), ULTIMATE BOMB (*S Bungane) and ODDS AND EVENS (K Steyn) jumped slow, losing one length.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (11h14)
b) Jockey A Fortune reported that he felt something amiss with SWEET GREEN and that she had made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
Trainer SJ Snaith was interviewed with regard to the performance of SWEET GREEN as the Stewards had noticed that Jockey A Fortune had ceased with his riding of this filly in the latter stages. He told the Stewards that this filly had raced prominently in her first start and had also tired in the latter stages of that race. For today's race he had instructed Jockey A Fortune to attempt to find cover for SWEET GREEN in the early stages. However, she had jumped smartly and as she was unable to get cover, he was satisfied that Jockey A Fortune had made the correct decision not to restrain the filly under the circumstances.
The Stewards instructed Trainer SJ Snaith that this filly should remain on course to be re-examined by the Veterinary Surgeon later in the day.
When questioned, Jockey A Fortune told the Stewards that SWEET GREEN had made a respiratory noise from the 300m, had tired in the latter stages and that in the concluding stages, her action had changed and the filly had become uncomfortable.
The Stewards, having considered all the evidence, including the Veterinary Surgeon's reports, will proceed no further with this line of query.
c) ULTIMATE BOMB (*S Bungane) raced green.
d) In view of the performance of HERO'S JOURNEY (O Noach), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
e) WORLD SERIES, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised. (SC)
