THE STARTER REPORTED: a) NORDIC CHIEF (S Moodley) jumped sharply outwards. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (13h29) b) Shortly after the start, VIVA'S LIBERTE (C Zackey) was bumped heavily by POMP IT UP (JP van der Merwe), which was bumped out by LITTLE BOY BLUE (C Habib), which shifted out away from NORDIC CHIEF (S Moodley), which had jumped outwards sharply. As a consequence, VIVA'S LIBERTE (C Zackey) lost ground and was obliged to take up a position at the back of the field. c) COASTAL COMMANDER (M Yeni) and NORDIC CHIEF (S Moodley) over raced in the early stages. d) Leaving the 100m, NORDIC CHIEF (S Moodley) had to be checked and made contact with the hindquarters of AIR RAID (C Orffer) when racing on the outside of STORMWATCH (G Lerena), which shifted out from the 250m. As a consequence, AIR RAID (C Orffer) was unbalanced in this incident and POMP IT UP (JP van der Merwe), which was following, was held up for a number of strides and had to be directed inwards. A Stipendiary Steward called for a race review of this incident and after reviewing the patrol film, took no further action. Jockey G Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that as the rider of STORMWATCH, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to NORDIC CHIEF and AIR RAID leaving the 100m. Jockey G Lerena signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 days. (Dates to be advised) e) STORMWATCH, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AE Sands was advised. (SC) JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES: a) NORDIC CHIEF raced with blinkers. (declared 10h48 on 20260202) RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) LITTLE BOY BLUE - cast right front shoe. SCRATCHED: a) PLEASE BE TRUE - under medication. Rule 53.5 applied. (declared 19h22 on 20260130)
