THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) TIMELINE (C Zackey) was stubborn loading.
b) ICONIC WINTER (*G Dookhit) was stubborn loading and slow into stride.
c) ELUSIVE BOMBA (M Yeni) kicked the back gates in the starting stalls.
d) FIVE STAR MAGIC (X Ndlovu) jumped awkwardly inwards, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride.
e) TIME FOR DANCING (*J Botes) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (12h54)
b) Permission was granted by the Stipendiary Board for ICONIC WINTER (*G Dookhit) to be hacked to the start.
c) FIVE STAR MAGIC jumped sharply inwards, which resulted in Jockey X Ndlovu losing his footing to his right-side stirrup iron, which he regained shortly thereafter.
d) IN PROCESS jumped awkwardly inwards, which resulted in Jockey J Gates becoming unbalanced and losing his footing to his left side stirrup iron, which he regained shortly thereafter.
e) TIME FOR DANCING (*J Botes), which raced green, shortened its stride in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
Trainer DA McKenzie was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this filly on her return to the stables.
f) ATLANTIC PEARL took a number of awkward strides at approximately the 250m, which resulted in Jockey A Fortune not riding his mount to the finish. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
Jockey A Fortune appeared before the Board and was questioned with regard to his ride on ATLANTIC PEARL. He explained that he felt the filly was tiring, the winner was clear and he did not feel the need to use his crop and ride his mount vigorously. The Board noted his explanation but his attention was drawn to Rule 62.2.3. with regards to riding his mount to the finish line to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards.
Trainer K Mitchley was advised to report back should she find anything amiss with this filly on her return to the stables.
g) Jockey J Gates reported that IN PROCESS made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
h) Jockey C Zackey reported that TIMELINE choked up in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
i) In view of the report from the Starter regarding ICONIC WINTER (*G Dookhit), Assistant Trainer F Jacobs, acting on behalf of Trainer DG Smith, was advised to have this filly re-schooled prior to her next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10.
j) Jockey M van Rensburg was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the carded weight on ENDIZAYO, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with the Trainer. Jockey M van Rensburg signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1000.00.
k) ICONIC WINTER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer F Jacobs, acting on behalf of Trainer DG Smith, was advised. (LM)
