THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) GRAN CANARIA (A Fortune) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (16h38)
b) After being slightly slow to begin GRAN CANARIA (A Fortune) was bumped on both sides by IT IS MY TIME (G van Niekerk) and JOSHUA (O Noach), both of which shifted ground marginally.
c) Shortly after the start, NIGHTRAIN (C Orffer) was momentarily unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by IRELAND FOREVER (S Veale). During the incident, Jockey C Orffer (NIGHTRAIN) reported that his saddle slipped sideways, which he corrected.
d) At the 350m SAN PEDRO (*B Plaatjies) had to be checked away from the heels of IT IS MY TIME (G van Niekerk), losing momentum, when IT IS MY TIME (G van Niekerk) shifted in when insufficiently clear. As a consequence, GRAN CANARIA (A Fortune) was crowded for galloping room between the inside running rail and SAN PEDRO (*B Plaatjies).
Jockey G van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that as the rider of IT IS MY TIME, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to SAN PEDRO at the 350m. Jockey G van Niekerk signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 days. (Dates: 15/02/2026 to 21/02/2026, both dates inclusive)
e) At the 350m, SHOW OFF (G Wright) was held up behind SAN PEDRO (*B Plaatjies) and was directed outwards. Thereafter, SHOW OFF (G Wright) was steadied on a second occasion when unable to secure a clear run on the inside of BOOGIEFIED (AUS) (C Zackey).
f) BOOGIEFIED (AUS), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Dixon, acting on behalf of Trainer WA Nel, was advised. (ZM)
