SHORTLY BEFORE HORSES WERE ALLOWED TO PROCEED TO THE START FROM THE PARADE RING AREA, APPLES AND TEA (MK KATJEDI) BROKE FREE FROM THE GROOM, GALLOPED TO THE HOLDING AREA, WAS TAKEN IN HAND, EXAMINED BY THE VETERINARY SURGEON AND PASSED SUITABLE TO RACE, CAUSING A DELAY. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) THE JUDGE (S Khathi) was stubborn loading. b) OLAF THE STOUT (R Fourie) was stubborn loading and nervous in the stalls. c) CHIEF MASTER (L Mxothwa), HIGH RIDER (*G Dookhit) and TIME FOR PEACE (X Ndlovu) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (11h14) b) Jockey X Ndlovu did not persevere with his riding of TIME FOR PEACE from the 300m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. c) Apprentice G Dookhit did not persevere with his riding of HIGH RIDER from the 200m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. Apprentice G Dookhit appeared before the Board and was questioned as to the reason he did not ride his mount to the finish line. He explained to the Board that HIGH RIDER had felt unsound beneath him. His attention was drawn to the Rules pertaining to his obligation to report any circumstances which might affect the performance of his mount. Trainer E Kaknis was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this colt on his return to the stables. d) FLYING SKIT (M Yeni), JUST CARTER (C Zackey) and OLAF THE STOUT (R Fourie) raced green. e) JUST CARTER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
