THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) BACK FOR MORE (X Ndlovu) and POMEROL (W Agrella) were nervous in the stalls.
b) CELTIQUE (C Maujean) jumped slow, losing one length.
c) POTENZA (*B Soodoo) and LANA VIEW (*J Botes) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (14h16)
b) Permission was granted for UMZOLOZOLO (M van Rensburg) and POTENZA (*B Soodoo) to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start.
c) In view of the performance of KAMAKAZI (*I Taka), which over raced in the early and middle stages and was not persevered with from the 300m, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
Trainer JVA Strydom was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables.
d) At approximately the 1300m POMEROL (W Agrella), UMZOLOZOLO (M van Rensburg), POTENZA (*B Soodoo) and LANA VIEW (*J Botes) had to ease and check severely when awkwardly placed on the heels of HAT MONTERA (*W Fourie), which shifted inwards after racing wide on the turn.
Apprentice W Fourie was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that as the rider of HAT MONTERA, she failed to ensure that she did not cause interference to POMEROL, UMZOLOZOLO, POTENZA and LANA VIEW approaching the 1300m. Apprentice W Fourie signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 days. (Dates: 11/04/2026 to 17/04/2026, both dates inclusive)
e) POMEROL (W Agrella) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended for a period of 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr K Davis)
f) HAT MONTERA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM)
g) DESERT CLOUD, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Z Oosthuizen was advised. (LM)
JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES:
a) G Wright rode ARABIAN RED. (declared 10h05 on 20260324)
RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER:
a) Nil.
THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED:
a) KAMAKAZI - examined post-race. Nothing obvious detected.
b) OCEAN FLAME - coughing.
c) POMEROL - coughing & bilateral epistaxis. Suspended 60 days. Rule 93.1 applied.
