THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ALHAKIM (*M Mbuto) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. b) POMPEII SHIELD (D Schwarz) and SIVAJI (*T Mayhew) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels, and no retests were recorded. b) Shortly after the start, POMPEII SHIELD (D Schwarz), which was encouraged forward, commenced to over-race and was steadied to avoid running onto the heels of AFTERBURN (P Mxoli), which hung in. Shortly thereafter, at approximately the 1450m, AFTERBURN (P Mxoli) was steadied when awkwardly placed between CUZZIE (J Gates) and GIMMESUMLUV (C Zackey), which rolled in when awkwardly placed on the inside of ROYALE JACKET (*K J Lihaba). As a consequence of this, POMPEII SHIELD (D Schwarz) was switched out to avoid the heels of AFTERBURN (P Mxoli). The Board, after giving regard to this incident, was of the opinion that blame could not be apportioned to any individual rider and deemed this to be a racing incident and therefore took no further action. c) ALHAKIM (*M Mbuto), which over-raced with blinkers fitted for the first time, raced wide around the turn and into the straight and thereafter tired badly from the 600m. In view of this performance, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) SAND SCRIPT (R Munger), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S G Tarry was advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) SIVAJI raced equipped with blinkers (declared 28 March 2026 at 13H23). b) SAND SCRIPT raced with a tongue tie on (declared 30 March 2026 at 09H47). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) ALHAKIM examined post-race, nothing obvious detected. b) AFTERBURN abnormal respiratory noise. c) SIVAJI moderate post-race distress. d) SAND SCRIPT coughing post-race.
