THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) GLOBAL THRILLER (C Zackey) was reluctant to load.
b) ROCKING IN RIO (K Minnie) and WINNING DOC (S Khathi) were reluctant to load and thereafter, were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (11h59)
b) WINNING DOC (S Khathi), which over raced in the early and middle stages, was steadied and directed outwards to avoid running onto the heels of ROCKING IN RIO (K Minnie) and made slight contact with CHIEF MASTER (C Maujean) at the 1100m. Thereafter, WINNING DOC (S Khathi) raced wide on the turn and into the straight and Jockey S Khathi did not persevere with his riding of this colt from the 300m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine WINNING DOC.
Trainer K Mitchley was questioned regarding the continued poor performances of WINNING DOC as in his only other start on 30/01/2026 over 1000m, he had finished 26.50 lengths back. In today's race, he had finished 31.00 lengths back. She was advised that should this colt show no improvement in future performances, he may be suspended.
Trainer K Mitchley advised the Stewards that she intended to race this colt over the shorter distances of 1000m and 1200m and would also try him on the polytrack. Her explanation was noted.
c) GLOBAL THRILLER (C Zackey) and PROFUMO (M Yeni) took a number of awkward strides between the 400m and the 200m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these colts.
Trainer DG Smith was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with GLOBAL THRILLER on his return to the stables.
d) In view of the performance of ROCKING IN RIO (K Minnie), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
e) CHIEF MASTER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised. (LM)
