THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) JUAN CARLOS (W Agrella) was stubborn loading.
b) HOME REEF (E Webber) kicked the back gates in the starting stalls.
c) TWENTY DRACHMA'S (*I Taka) was nervous in the stalls and stood awkwardly.
d) BOURNEMOUTH (R Fourie) jumped slow, losing one length.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (14h53)
b) ANATOLIAN SILVER (MK Katjedi) jumped a patch at approximately the 2500m and became unbalanced for a number of strides.
c) BOURNEMOUTH (R Fourie) was hanging in between the 450m and the 200m.
d) In view of the performance of TWENTY DRACHMA'S (*I Taka), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
e) In view of the performance of ONLY A POET (Y Ramzan), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
ONLY A POET (Y Ramzan) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended for a period of 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr J de Villiers)
f) Jockey E Webber was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of HOME REEF he misused his crop by striking HOME REEF more than 10 times(11)
which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey E Webber signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1800,00.
g) Apprentice G Dookhit was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of SPOIL YOURSELF he misused his crop by striking SPOIL YOURSELF more than 10 times (17) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Apprentice G Dookhit signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R20 000,00 and suspended for a period of 14 days. (Dates: 11/04/2026 to 24/04/2026, both dates inclusive).
Due to the severity of the offence, the Stewards have recommended that this matter be referred to the Crop Panel. Furthermore, no discount was given with regard to the signing of the Admission of Guilt.
h) BAD MEDICINE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM)
i) HOME REEF, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised. (LM)
