THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) STRAIGHT RED (M van Rensburg) jumped slow, losing one length.
b) NIGHT IN JAPAN (C Habib) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (13h00)
b) Permission was granted for STRAIGHT RED (M van Rensburg) and JET O WAR (S Naidoo) to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start.
c) PLAYMAKER (R Fourie) over raced in the early and middle stages.
d) JET O WAR (S Naidoo) was hanging out and shifted outwards from the 350m.
e) PICK A POMODORO (C Maujean) shifted outwards away from the crop from the 200m.
f) Leaving the 200m, STRAIGHT RED (M van Rensburg) was carried outwards by SATELLITE WORLD (M Yeni), which rolled outwards. Thereafter, shortly before the finish, SATELLITE WORLD (M Yeni) shifted outwards and made slight contact with STRAIGHT RED (M van Rensburg). The Stewards called for a race review and after viewing the patrol film from various angles, took no further action.
g) Jockey C Habib (NIGHT IN JAPAN) and Apprentice B Soodoo (TOTAL ERUPTION) did not persevere with their riding of their respective mounts and thereafter reported that these fillies did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
Trainer D McKenzie, acting on behalf of Trainer Z Oosthuizen, was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with TOTAL ERUPTION on her return to the stables.
h) Apprentice N Nastili reported that GIMME THE BEST did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
i) PICK A POMODORO, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer M Sobethwa, acting on behalf of Trainer SB Kotzen, was advised. (LM)
