THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) FOCAL POINT (J Gates) and CAUGHTUBYSURPRISE (MK Katjedi) were stubborn loading and slow into stride.
b) AURELIAN (M Yeni) kicked the back gates in the starting stalls.
c) HEY DIDDLE DIDDLE (G Wright) kicked the back gates in the starting stalls and rushed the front gates.
d) DELAROCHE (R Fourie) and LOOKING GOOD (*S Bungane) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Permission was granted for AURELIAN (M Yeni), ALLEYAH'S ROCKET (Y Ramzan) and HEY DIDDLE DIDDLE (G Wright) to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start.
b) CAUGHTUBYSURPRISE (MK Katjedi) was hanging out throughout.
c) The saddle on AURELIAN (M Yeni) slipped back in running. This was confirmed by the Veterinary Surgeon.
d) Trainer DG Smith was questioned with regard to the improved performance of WALTZING DOLL compared to his previous run on 6 March 2026. He explained that this gelding's previous run had been in a Work Rider's race, where it had been fitted with blinkers over the 1000m, but had jumped slow and raced too keenly. For today's race, the blinkers had been removed and cheek pieces fitted. He further advised that, in his opinion, this gelding is suited to the 1000m. His explanation was noted.
e) HEY DIDDLE DIDDLE (G Wright) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended for a period of 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. f) WALTZING DOLL, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer DG Smith was advised. (LM)
