THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) SPIRIT OF LIFE was fractious in the stalls, was taken out, examined by the Veterinarian, passed suitable to race and reloaded, causing a delay. Thereafter, this filly was slow into stride.
b) ONTHEWINGSOFADOVE was fractious loading and broke her bridle. This filly was taken out of the stalls, the bridle was replaced and ONTHEWINGSOFADOVE was reloaded, causing a further delay.
c) SPARKLING STAR was reluctant to load.
d) JEWEL MULE jumped slow, losing one length.
e) CAPTAIN'S LASS was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (11h39)
b) SPIRIT OF LIFE cast its left front shoe while proceeding to the start, which was replaced, causing a delay.
c) Jockey A Domeyer appeared before the Board and was advised that although SPARKLING STAR had won easily, he was still expected to ride his mounts, at least hands and heels, to the finish.
d) The Stewards examined the bridle of ONTHEWINGSOFADOVE and were satisfied that it had been in good working order.
e) In view of the report from the Starter regarding SPARKLING STAR, Trainer C Bass will be advised to have this filly re-schooled prior to her next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10.
f) In view of the report from the Starter regarding ONTHEWINGSOFADOVE and SPIRIT OF LIFE, these fillies' starting stall certificates have been withdrawn and they are suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as they prove to be tractable to load and stand on terms with a companion. (Suspension dates: 17/05/2026 to 23/05/2026, both dates inclusive). ONTHEWINGSOFADOVE and SPIRIT OF LIFE may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Trainers C Bass (ONTHEWINGSOFADOVE) and J Crawford (SPIRIT OF LIFE) will be advised.
g) SPARKLING STAR, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass was advised. (TJ)
