THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SUN ECLIPSE was stubborn loading. b) CAUGHTUBYSURPRISE was stubborn loading and slow into stride. c) STONE OF SCONE was nervous in the stalls. d) LOOKING GOOD was nervous and stood awkwardly in the stalls. e) POWER OF TIGER jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (12h27) b) Permission was granted for FONTE to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start. c) The start of this race was delayed due to a technical issue in the Judge's box. Jockeys were allowed to dismount at the start while the issue was attended to. This issue was only partially resolved. d) CAUGHTUBYSURPRISE had to be steadied momentarily when awkwardly placed between the inside running rail and AMONG THE WILLOWS, which was carried in slightly by LOOKING GOOD at approximately the 800m. Jockey M van Rensburg (LOOKING GOOD) appeared before the Board and was advised to straighten his mounts timeously in similar circumstances. e) SUN ECLIPSE was carried out by STONE OF SCONE, which was hanging out badly on the turn and into the straight. f) AMERICAN GEM was hanging in from the 400m and was corrected at the 300m. This filly then shifted out away from the crop, after which she commenced to hang in. Thereafter, Jockey S Naidoo reported that AMERICAN GEM did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinarian was requested to examine this filly. g) LOOKING GOOD had to be steadied momentarily to avoid running onto the heels of FONTE, which shifted out away from the crop shortly before the finish. h) In view of the performance of STONE OF SCONE (Betting 1/1; Distance 4.90 lengths), which was hanging out throughout, the Veterinarian was requested to examine this filly. Trainer DG Smith was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this filly on her return to the stables. i) AMONG THE WILLOWS returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended for a period of 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr J de Villiers) j) POWER OF TIGER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. Not striding out right hind. c) AMONG THE WILLOWS - bilateral epistaxis. Suspended 60 days. Rule 93.1 applied. SCRATCHED: a) CHAMPAGNE BLAZE - change of surface.
