THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MONKEY'S WEDDING was nervous in the stalls. b) PLAYMAKER was nervous in the stalls and slow into stride. c) STRAIGHT RED jumped slow, losing one length. d) BUGLE was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (12h17) b) Permission was granted for LEIF ERIKSON and STRAIGHT RED to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start. c) MONKEY'S WEDDING and RED FRED over raced in the early and middle stages. d) SATELLITE WORLD, which over raced in the early and middle stages, raced awkwardly on the first turn and proved difficult to assist. e) STRAIGHT RED was hanging in from the 400m and was corrected at the 100m. f) Jockey R Fourie did not persevere with his riding of PLAYMAKER from the 200m and thereafter reported that this gelding made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinarian was requested to examine. Trainer AC Greeff was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. g) OSMIUM, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised. (LM) THE VETERINARIAN REPORTED: a) PLAYMAKER - examined post-race. Nothing obvious detected. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
