THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) STEEL PIER jumped outwards leaving the stalls.
b) Shortly after the start, JIMMY VEGA and MASTER SMOKER came together and bumped.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels, and no retests were recorded.
b) At approximately the 200m, STEEL PIER was carried out significantly by SILVER COMET, which shifted out away from the crop. As a consequence of this, BRAVE WAAM and STEEL PIER had to ease.
A race review was called by a member of the Stipendiary Board, which was followed by an Objection being lodged by him on behalf of the fourth-placed horse, STEEL PIER (*M Mbuto), against third-placed horse, SILVER COMET (K Matsunyane), on the grounds of interference and intimidation at approximately the 200m. The Objection Board, after reviewing the patrol film of the race and hearing all the evidence put forward by the connections, was of the opinion that STEEL PIER (*M Mbuto) would have finished in front of SILVER COMET (K Matsunyane) barring this incident and therefore upheld the Objection and amended the Judges' result to read as follows:
1st 7 MASTER SMOKER (C Zackey)
2nd 6 JIMMY VEGA (K de Melo)
3rd 9 STEEL PIER (*M Mbuto)
4th 8 SILVER COMET (K Matsunyane)
5th 5 BE ALL YOU CAN BE (*B Marx-Jacobson)
6th 1 BRAVE WAAM (K Strydom)
An inquiry has been opened into this incident.
c) In view of the performance of BE ALL YOU CAN BE, (distance 4,30 lengths, betting 5/2), the Veterinarian was requested to examine.
d) MASTER SMOKER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
