LATIN MAGIC and DESERT SWIRL were slow into stride. Apprentice Smitsdorff was charged with a contravention, read with Appendix M, Guideline 4, in that as the rider of PRIVATE DOOWALEY he failed to weigh out at the carded weight and could not claim within 1kg of his apprentice allowance, this resulted in Apprentice Smitsdorff being replaced on the gelding. Apprentice Smitsdorff signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined. Jockey Andrews reported that ROYAL PERFORMANCE did not stride out freely in running. DESERT SWIRL was unbalanced at the 300m when it was bumped by PINOTAGE PETE, which was carried outwards by EQUITORIA, which shifted out. Racing behind these horses a tiring MASTER CHI and SANDY LANE brushed, and DANDYMAN CAN, which was following, became unbalanced when it clipped the heels of MASTER CHI and stumbled. COMBATTIMENTO (AUS) was held up for a clear run until the 200m as a result of this. A Member of the Stipendiary Board called for a race review regarding this incident and after reviewing the relevant patrol films, was of the opinion that the result was not affected and took no further action. An Inquiry will be held regarding this incident. DESERT SWIRL and PINOTAGE PETE were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: ROYAL PERFORMANCE - not striding out behind. PRIVATE DOOWALEY - overreach wound on the left fore.
