PHIRI E KWATILE jumped awkwardly, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. BLOOD BUCCANEER jumped awkwardly and thereafter was slow into stride. SURRUPTITIOUS raced tightly at about the 1500m between TITUS, which shifted inwards, and DREAM AWAY, which shifted out slightly. Jockey van Niekerk, the rider of TITUS, appeared before the Board and was advised to ensure that he gives sufficient room to runners on his inside when shifting ground in future. SURRUPTITIOUS was unbalanced at about the 350m when it was bumped outwards onto TITUS by PHIRI E KWATILE, which had been baulked for a clear run and was switched outwards off the heels of DREAM AWAY to continue its run. This led to SURRUPTITIOUS being awkwardly placed close to the heels of TITUS, losing position. Jockey Schlechter, the rider of PHIRI E KWARILE, was charged with a contravention, in that he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners when he switched outwards at the 350m. Jockey Schlechter signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in races for a period of seven days. DEFINITIVE lost position approaching the 200m when it was checked to avoid the heels of DREAM AWAY, which was hanging in and rolled inwards. SIR BASTION was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
