HELDERBERG BLUE was fractious at the start and reluctant to load, was loaded without the rider causing a slight delay. HELDERBERG BLUE jumped outwards and carried MARMALADE TYCOON (AUS) outwards. Trainer Bass will be advised that HELDERBERG BLUE's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn. STRONGMAN and ROMAN MANNER (AUS) made contact at the start. In view of the performance from HELDERBERG BLUE, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the colt and submit a report. Jockey Byleveld reported that he felt something amiss with BRAVE LEADER in running. BRAVE LEADER was difficult to settle in the early stages. ARION, COUNTS ROCKET and MARMALADE TYCOON (AUS) were carried outwards approaching the 200m, by CAPE CUTTER, which was hanging out proving difficult to assist. Thereafter, in the concluding stages, COUNTS ROCKET was brushed by ARION, which was carried outwards by CAPE CUTTER, which was still hanging out. A Member of the Stipendiary Board called for a race review regarding these two incidents. After reviewing the patrol films and taking into account the Judge's distance of 0.30 lengths between CAPE CUTTER and ARION, the Steward was of the opinion that the result had not been affected and took no further action. Jockey Cheyne appeared before the Board and was advised that, while the Board conceded that CAPE CUTTER was hanging and was difficult to assist, he needs to take stronger corrective measures when attempting to keep his mounts on a straight course in future. STRONGMAN and BLAZE OF NOON were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: HELDERBERG BLUE - very fractious post race and made a poor recovery. BRAVE LEADER - inspected post race and no obvious abnormalities were detected.
