ANDERSON reared in the stalls and jumped slow, losing one length. KATAK and CALL ME AL jumped slow, losing one length. PEGA D'ORO was restless in the stalls WINTER TANGO raced wide without cover on the latter stages of the bend and into the straight, and was momentarily unbalanced when brushed by BRANDENBURG at the 100m. KATAK and CALL ME AL were carried in when WILL SCARLET, which commenced to tire badly, rolled inwards sharply approaching the 400m. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. Approaching the 200m, BRANDENBURG had to ease when tightened for galloping room between SILVER PLAINS and WINTER TANGO. BLACK BELT was continually baulked and only obtained a clear run at the 100m. NORFOLK PINE had to ease when awkwardly placed on the heels of SILVER PLAINS when PEGA D'ORO rolled in shortly before the finish. Jockey Andrews, the rider of ANDERSON, reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding and he did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages. Jockey Fourie, the rider of VERATUM, reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding. Jockey Behr was charged with a contravention, read with Guideline M on the use of the crop, in that he struck KATAK more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey Behr signed an admission of guilt and was fined. In coming to a decision on the penalty, the Stewards took into account the manner in which he used his crop and the number of strikes above the permissible level. In view of the report from the Starter regarding ANDERSON, Trainer Snaith will be advised to have this gelding re schooled before his next engagement. KATAK was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: ANDERSON, VERATRUM and WILL SCARLET - nothing obvious detected BRANDENBURG - cast left front shoe KATAK and PEGA D'ORO - returned with blood in his mouth Scratched: ROCK THE NIGHT - coughing.
