PRICELESS GEM was slow away, lost 2 lengths. LIELUMS and LAST SHOT (ARG) were slow away, lost 1 length. Apprentice Patel was granted permission to hack LAST SHOT (ARG) to the start. BENEDICT jumped inwards as the start was effected, which resulted in MENTALIST becoming cramped for galloping room shortly after the start. MOD BARLEY was hanging in over the final 300 metres and shifted inwards carrying LIELUMS inwards, which resulted in LIELUMS and STARS AND STRIPES brushing and LIELUMS becoming momentarily cramped for galloping room. Thereafter MOD BARLEY continued to hang inwards, resulting in LIELUMS being carried inwards shortly before the finish. A race review was called by a member of the Stipendiary Board which was followed by an Objection being lodged by Jockey Khathi, the rider of 4th placed LIELUMS against 3rd placed MOD BARLEY on the grounds of interference in the latter stages. The Objection Board, having heard the evidence and having reviewed the Patrol Film, were of the view that but for the incident referred to, LIELUMS would have finished ahead of MOD BARLEY and upheld the Objection. The result was amended. Jockey Kennedy reported that FOLLOW THE TIGER took no interest in the running. STARS AND STRIPES was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Apprentice Mxothwa signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention in that he, whilst riding MOONSCAPE, failed to ride his horse out to the end of the race. LAST SHOT (ARG) and MOD BARLEY raced with blinkers. The trainer of LIELUMS is now Mrs R du Plessis. Vet: MOD BARLEY - abnormal respiratory noise. FOLLOW THE TIGER - coughing post race and short left fore. Scratched: FOREST FIGHTER - coughing.
