DAVID'S FLOWER (AUS), O'CANADA, NORTHERN WATERS and BOLD ATTITUDE were slow into stride. SALANDER flyjumped leaving the stalls, losing two lengths. CAPE CANAVERAL was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. DAVID'S FLOWER (AUS) was pulling hard in the early stages. NORTHERN WATERS was pulling hard in the early and middle stages, difficult to settle. FIRST FLIGHT was eased off the heels of GEMSTONE CREEK and was forced to switch out to obtain a clear run in the latter stages. SALANDER shifted out slightly at approximately the 350 metre mark, which resulted in MISTY POWER becoming cramped for galloping room and having to be eased. DAVID'S FLOWER (AUS) raced equipped with blinkers. Vet: MISTY POWER - speedy cut both fore. Following the running of the 1st Race, the riders expressed concern and protested as to the continuation of the race meeting due to, in their opinion, unsafe track conditions caused by the trenching of the track for irrigation purposes, causing patches. The panel as well as members of Gold Circle management and trainers representatives, having viewed the patrol videos, acknowledged that these areas were visible, but were of the view that there was little video evidence to confirm the riders concerns that their horses were reacting to these areas. As a result of this, the jockeys were canvassed individually and voted unanimously that in their opinion it was unsafe to continue racing. The remainder of the race meeting was therefore abandoned. The course farrier on duty did not report there to be anything amiss with the shoes fitted to the horses that raced at tonight's race meeting. The passports of all the runners that raced at tonight's race meeting were checked, identities, AHS and Equine Influenza vaccinations confirmed, as per normal procedure. Several Jockeys were selected at random for the taking of breathalyser tests and urine samples for analysis.
