CALL OF THE HUNT was slow into stride. In view of the performance from MADAME ROONEY, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the mare and submit a report. Jockey van der Merwe reported that CALL OF THE HUNT did not stride out freely in running. Jockey Fourie reported that KUKAMA did not stride out freely in running. Apprentice Carstens, the rider of MADAME ROONEY, appeared before the Board and was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts to the finish in future. The Stewards reviewed Jockey van der Merwe's use of the crop on CALL OF THE HUNT in this race and inspected his crop and were of the opinion that his use of the crop was reasonable and contravened none of the crop guidelines and therefore took no further action. BLARNEY BAY was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: MADAME ROONEY and KUKAMA - inspected post race and no obvious abnormalities were detected. CALL OF THE HUNT - returned with mild crop marks.
