GUANTANAMERA and ONE COOL DUDE lost 1 length each. MIKE'S CHOICE lost 2 lengths. ONE COOL DUDE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Puller requested and was granted permission for MIDNIGHT RUN to proceed to the start with the assistance of a lead horse. MIDNIGHT RUN, hanging in, shifted in from the crop approaching the 150 metre mark and carried GUANTANAMERA inwards for a number of strides. Thereafter MIDNIGHT RUN shifted out from the crop shortly before the finish. Jockey Khumalo, the rider of MIDNIGHT RUN, appeared before the Board with regard to this incident and was advised to take more care when shifting ground in races in future. In view of the performances of REGAL EAGLE and NORMANZ, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these geldings. MIDNIGHT RUN returned post race having cast the right fore shoe. MIDNIGHT RUN raced without blinkers and without his tongue tied down. The Medical Officer reported that Jockey Randolph stood down with acute sinusitis. Vet: REGAL EAGLE and NORMANZ - nothing obvious detected. Scratched: NORTHERN EMPEROR (AUS) - not eating up. PANAMA MAN - lame left fore.
