The start of this race was delayed due to Jockey Sampson, on I'MBULLETPROOF, being injured en route to the start. A replacement rider had to be weighed out and sent to the start. WHICH WAY was restless in the stalls. JEWEL OF THE STAGE and I'MBULLETPROOF were slow, losing one length. AMOUR DE LA BONTE was reluctant to proceed to the start and had to be led to the start. Trainer Ferreira was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future, it may be suspended. HOBB'S FLIGHT raced without blinkers. GOLD NOTE broke down at approximately the 650 metre mark and was eased out of the race. As a result, TRIPLE DISTILLED was forced to switch out and JUST A THOUGHT had to switch in to avoid the injured horse GOLD NOTE. Jockey Lerena, the rider of NGIYASHISA, appeared before the Board, was shown the patrol films of the race and spoken to regarding the use of the crop. Jockey Lerena was charged with a contravention, read with Guideline M on the use of the crop, in that he used his crop with excessive frequency whilst riding the horse NGIYASHISA. Jockey Lerena signed an Admission of Guilt. The Board took into account Jockey Lerena's record with regards to contraventions of this Rule and imposed a penalty of a Warning. DOWN MEXICO WAY, AMOUR DE LA BONTE, NGIYASHISA and TRIPLE DISTILLED were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: GOLD NOTE - fractured left front sesamoids. Humanely euthanased. Sample collected for analysis. TRIPLE DISTILLED - uncomfortable behind. I'MBULLETPROOF - abnormal respiratory noise.
