MYSTICAL MOUSE and WESTERN DANE were slow into stride. CATTLE KING and SQUADRON lost one length. PERFECT CIRCLE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. PERFECT CIRCLE proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led to the start. In view of this, Trainer Howells was advised that should this gelding behave in this similar manner in the future, he will be suspended. TRY YOUR LUCK was hanging in, in the straight and shifted in brushing MICROSTATE on several occasions between the 300 and 200 metre marks and thereafter brushed MICROSTATE at approximately the 50 metre mark. PERFECT CIRCLE, hanging in, shifted in slightly at approximately the 200 metre mark, resulting in TRY YOUR LUCK having to ease momentarily. MYSTICAL MOUSE raced green on the bend. STUNNING GUY stumbled and faltered at approximately the 900 metre mark. Apprentice Mohapi, believing that there was something amiss with this gelding, eased his mount out of the Race. Jockey Byleveld, the rider of TERRA NOVA, and Jockey Yeni, the rider of WESTERN DANE, reported that their respective mounts were not striding out freely in running. In view of the performance of LIVE CONTROVERSY, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Vet: STUNNING GUY - ruptured left fore suspensory ligament. Euthanased on humane grounds. TERRA NOVA and WESTERN DANE - nothing obvious detected. LIVE CONTROVERSY - not striding out right hind. CRUMLIN - abnormal respiratory noise.
