TYLER'S TALENT was difficult to load. CLIPPERTON ISLAND, MANDOLIN RAIN and TYLER'S TALENT were all slow into stride. INTELLECT lost 1 length. CLIPPERTON ISLAND was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. MANDOLIN RAIN over-raced, was difficult to restrain and was forced to ease off the heels of CLIPPERTON ISLAND, striking the inside running rail approaching the 1200 metre mark. Thereafter ducked out carrying CHARLES GREIG outwards for a number of strides. INTELLECT brushed the inside running rail at approximately the 1000 metre mark. CLIPPERTON ISLAND, hanging out, shifted out over the final 300 metres. Apprentice Mohapi, the rider of CLIPPERTON ISLAND, appeared before the Board and was advised to take stronger measures in future from preventing his mounts from shifting ground in races. Apprentice May, the rider of BARCELONA BOY, Apprentice Mo, the rider of SENSEI, and Apprentice Godden, the rider of PEARLY KING, all had satisfactory qualifying rides.
