The start of this Race was delayed due to a technical fault with the radio system following the load shedding, and the Veterinary Surgeon having to examine HAMSA GROVE at the start and declaring it fit to race. STAR CHOICE lost one length. URBAN OASIS fly-jumped leaving the stalls. Jockey Ngwane signed an admission of guilt for a contravention, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse CONSTANTIA more than 12 times in the entire Race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey Ngwane the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey Ngwane struck the horse CONSTANTIA, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey Ngwane used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1000 was imposed. PERSPICUOUS returned post race having cast the left fore shoe. HAMSA GROVE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
