The start of the 10th Race was delayed as a result of Jockey Khumalo being injured en route to the start and having to be attended to by the paramedics and a replacement rider having to be sent to the start. CARIBBEAN DAY and PERSONAL QUESTION were slow into stride. ROYAL ZULU GUARD (AUS) was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. CARIBBEAN DAY was baulked for a clear run between the 200 and 150 metre marks and thereafter approaching the 100 metre mark became cramped and was forced to ease momentarily. VARVELLA compounded in the latter stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. The Medical Officer reported that Jockey Khumalo was dislodged from the horse, injured right heel and hip and was referred to St Augustines ER for x-rays. Vet: VARVELLO - not striding out right fore. AFRICA - cut into left hind.
