BOLD ATTITUDE, EMBLEM ROYALE and RANNOCH were slow into stride. FABRIC was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer Greyling was questioned with regard to the improved performance of FABRIC, the winner, compared to this gelding's previous performance over 2500 metres. He explained that in his opinion, this previous distance is too far for this gelding. He has undertaken to race FABRIC over similar distances as today's race in the foreseeable future. The Board noted his explanation. VALMONT, hanging in, shifted in approaching the 300 metre mark, carrying SLOT IN inwards for a number of strides, resulting in SLOT IN having to switch out to obtain a clear run. Thereafter SLOT IN became baulked for a clear run over the final 50 metres and was eased at the finish. An objection was lodged by Jockey Odendaal on behalf of SLOT IN, placed fourth, against VALMONT, placed second, on the grounds of interference in the final straight. After viewing the patrol videos from the various angles, considering the evidence presented, and the distance between these two horses at the finish, the Board was of the opinion that but for the interference SLOT IN would not have beaten VALMONT and therefore over-ruled the objection. The Judge's result was allowed to stand and the deposit was refunded. EMBLEM ROYALE and BLUES TRAVELLER over-raced in the early stages.
