FIXTURE and ROAD TO MECCA were stubborn loading. BLUE BOY was nervous in the stall. WHISTLE INN was nervous and reared in the stall. WADI RAMM and DREW were stubborn loading and slow into stride. Permission was granted for BLUE BOY to be led to the start with a lead horse. BLUE BOY and WHISTLE INN did not parade to the start. Trainer Smith was advised that if these horses failed to parade in future engagements, they may be suspended. GRIM REAPER was hanging in, in the straight. Jockey Neethling signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention in that he failed to ride GRIM REAPER out to the end of the race thereby prejudicing his chances of finishing in the fifth position. In assessing penalty, the Stewards considered Apprentice Neethling's recent record of contravening this Rule and the stake money for fifth position. When questioned regarding the performance of WADI RAMM, Jockey Cheyne told the Stewards that this colt had been slow into stride, had lost its early position and he had been reluctant to chase the colt around the field; and in addition WADI RAMM had raced green. In view of the performance of WHISTLE INN, the Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Jockey Veale signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention in that he failed to ride WHISTLE INN out to the finish of the race. DREW was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: WHISTLE INN - blood in mouth.
