FALCONERS KNOT and BATTLE HAMMER were slow into stride. FIRST DEFENCE lost one length. THE HELMSMAN was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. FIRST DEFENCE became cramped and was eased approaching the 1400 metre mark. Thereafter NOT GUILTY was eased off the heels of GOLD FLIGHT and shifted in slightly, resulting in FIRST DEFENCE becoming cramped and having to be eased for a number of strides. DUN CARRER (ARG) was hanging in throughout. BERMUDA was hanging out on the bend. BATTLE HAMMER raced wide into the straight. Jockey Latham, the rider of FALCONERS KNOT, and Jockey Forbes, the rider of BERMUDA, reported that they felt something amiss with their respective mounts in running. Jockey Veale reported that BATTLE HAMMER took no interest in running. Jockey Lembethe, the rider of GOLD FLIGHT, weighed out at 53kg, 1kg over the carded weight of 52kg. The replacement rider was given permission to ride 1kg overweight as there was no other rider or apprentice available to ride this gelding within the 0.5kg overweight requirement. Vet: FALCONERS KNOT and BERMUDA - nothing obvious detected. BATTLE HAMMER - not striding out left hind.
