The tongue tie on ZAKUMI had to be refitted at the start causing a slight delay. CATCH THE TIGER jumped awkwardly and was slow into stride. CATCH THE TIGER was hanging in from the 400m. When questioned regarding the improved performance from PEACE PARK today, compared to the colt's previous form, Assistant Trainer Kotzen (Snr), acting on behalf of Trainer Kotzen, told the Stewards that this colt had under performed in its early career due to a respiratory problem and after its penultimate race on 28 September 2013 had undergone a wind operation and in its last run after a lengthy layoff the colt had needed the run and had tired in the closing stages. He added that in his opinion PEACE PARK had shown improvement at home after its wind operation and had been able to race from the front in today's race, and was able to sustain its lead until the finish. Mr Kotzen further stated that in his opinion the quality of today's field was weak. Mr Kotzen added that this colt would be better suited to the longer distances as it had shown in today's 2000m race. The Board noted Mr Kotzen's explanation and drew his attention to the Rules pertaining to inconsistent form. The future performances of this colt will be monitored. In view of the performance from RIVA BLU, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the gelding and submit a report. PEACE PARK was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. PEACE PARK raced without a tongue tie. Vet: RIVA BLU - inspected post race and no obvious abnormalities were detected. Scratched: LETS PARTY - sold without engagement.
