AFRICAN GLADIATOR faltered leaving the stalls. INDIAN RIVER was slow into stride. STONE REEVES was pulling hard in the early stages. Trainer von Willingh Smit was questioned regarding the performance of STONE REEVES. He explained to the Board that in his opinion the distance of today's race over 2200 metres was possibly too far for this gelding. He further explained that it is his intention to race this gelding over shorter distances in future. Trainer von Willingh Smit's explanation was noted. Jockey van Rensburg reported that AFRICAN GLADIATOR made a respiratory noise in running. Jockey Khumalo reported that DESERT BREEZE was not striding out freely in running. Jockey Yeni reported that he felt something amiss with PHILANTHROPIC and as a result did not persevere with his mount from the 200 metre mark. DANSILI EXPRESS (AUS) was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: AFRICAN GLADIATOR - no respiratory noise detected post race. DESERT BREEZE - not striding out both front. PHILANTHROPIC - not striding out left front. NOBLE COLOUR - Epistaxis, 90 day suspension.
