THE FIFTH WAVE was slow, losing 1 length. In the concluding stages LEADING FAST was carried in by ESKIMO KISSES, which was hanging in from the 200m. An objection was lodged by Trainer Tarry, on behalf of LEADING FAST, against ESKIMO KISSES, being declared the winner, on the grounds of interference, intimidation and being carried off a straight course in the concluding stages. The Board was of the opinion that even though there was significant inward movement from ESKIMO KISSES, which was hanging in, the inward carry on to LEADING FAST was only marginal. The Board was also of the opinion that there was independent inward movement away from the crop from LEADING FAST. The Board could not be satisfied that this incident had affected the result of the race and therefore overruled the objection and allowed the result to stand. Trainer S G Tarry's deposit was refunded. When taking ESKIMO KISSES' previous history with regards to hanging in into account, Assistant Trainer Dawson was advised to make the necessary corrective measures to keep this filly straight in races in future. ESKIMO KISSES was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
