ALPHAMIKEFOXTROT lost three lengths. AURORA AUSTRALIS lost one length. In the concluding stages, FLY BY SKYE was carried in by ROCKET FIRE, which was carried in on at least 2 occasions by FIVES WILD, which was hanging in from the 400m. Apprentice Gumede appeared before the Board, was shown the patrol films of the Race and advised to take more care when shifting ground in future. In particular, Apprentice Gumede's attention was drawn to the consistently long length of his reins when attempting to correct horses which are shifting ground. The Board obtained an undertaking from the Riding Master that this issue will be addressed with Apprentice Gumede with sufficient gravitas. Jockey de Melo reported that he felt something amiss with ALPHAMIKEFOXTROT in the running. In view of the performance of DURAN, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Jockey Ngwane signed an admission of guilt for a contravention, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse FLY BY SKYE more than 12 times in the entire Race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey Ngwane the Board considered the number of times Jockey Ngwane struck the horse FLY BY SKYE, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey Ngwane used his crop and his record (2) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty was imposed. FIVES WILD was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. JUNIPER LANE raced with a tongue tie. DURAN raced with alumites in front, steel shoes behind. Vet: ALPHAMIKEFOXTROT - fatigued. DURAN - nothing obvious detected.
