The surcingle on COUNT DRACULA had to be replaced, causing a slight delay. The start of this race was delayed slightly as BERTLE TURTLE lost a hind shoe in the saddling enclosure and as the farrier was unable to replace it, or remove the other hind shoe, the gelding was withdrawn by the Stipendiary Board. Jockey Byleveld reported that AMADEUS ROCKS (AUS) tired badly in the closing stages. TWENTY TWO was difficult to settle in the early and middle stages, raced wide on the bend and into the straight, and compounded in the closing stages. GIGABYTE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: AMADEUS ROCKS (AUS) - inspected post race and no obvious abnormalities were detected. TWENTY TWO - returned with a small mouth injury (from bit). Scratched: KING'S OF WAR - under medication. BERTLE TURTLE - lost a hind shoe in the saddling enclosure and as the farrier was unable to replace it, or remove the other hind shoe, the gelding was withdrawn by the Stipendiary Board.
