The start of the 8th Race was delayed as a result of ANTWERP breaking through the front gates and being restrained and returned to the stalls. Thereafter KINGS APPROVAL broke through the front gates and bolted, rider-less and had to be taken in hand and removed from the course. The loading recommenced and AFRICAN TRIUMPH broke through the stalls and cantered approximately 500 metres and stopped. This gelding was taken in hand and returned to the start. Jockey Cormack's saddle tree had broken and this gelding was withdrawn for delaying the start. RAZED IN BLACK was slow into stride. CRIME VICTIM lost 3 lengths. PROUD AS PUNCH lost 4 lengths. SON OF ORIMANDES was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Jockey Delpech reported that RAZED IN BLACK refused to gallop. Due to the performance of CRIME VICTIM, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. As a result of the Starter's report concerning AFRICAN TRIUMPH, the starting stall certificate for this gelding has been withdrawn until recertified tractable with a companion. Vet: RAZED IN BLACK - nothing obvious detected. Assistant Trainer Kotzen was advised to report back to the Stipendiary Board should he find anything amiss with this gelding on return to stables. CRIME VICTIM - coughing. Scratched: KING'S APPROVAL - dislodged Jockey Forbes at the start and bolted, withdrawn by the Veterinary Surgeon AFRICAN TRIUMPH - withdrawn by the Starter for delaying the start.
