PIGEON FLYER, LANE FROST, BIANZINO and IN REM proved difficult to settle in the early stages in a slow run race. When questioned regarding the performance from IN THE CRUISE today, Jockey Fayd'Herbe told the Stewards that he had been content to race from a rearward position from his wide draw and that the slow pace had not suited this colt. In his opinion it requires a stronger pace in the early stages, which it is able to sustain until the finish. He further stated that the field had sprinted in the home straight, which his mount had been unable to match. His explanation was noted. In view of the performance from IN THE CRUISE, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the colt and submit a report. When questioned regarding the improved performance from AL CAPITANO today, compared to its previous race on 5 July 2014, when the colt finished 14.15 lengths behind the winner at Greyville racecourse over 1300m, Assistant Trainer Miss Alsop, acting on behalf of Trainer Marshall told the Stewards that this colt's previous race was its only race in Kwa-Zulu Natal and this was a Feature race where the colt was drawn wide and had been unable to close the race off strongly. She added this race was under lights, which in her opinion played a part in the indifferent run. Her explanation was noted. AL CAPITANO was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: IN THE CRUISE - was inspected post race and no obvious abnormalities were detected. LANE FROST - returned coughing.
