ALBARAKAH and KONO were slow away, lost 1 length. OATS shifted out making contact with BROTHER IN ARMS approaching the 200 metre mark. Thereafter SIR DUKE shifted out; simultaneously BROTHER IN ARMS shifted in resulting in OATS becoming cramped for galloping room shortly before the finish. A race review was called into this incident which was followed by an Objection being lodged by Jockey van der Merwe, the rider of the 2nd placed horse, BROTHER IN ARMS, against the winner, SIR DUKE, on the grounds of interference in the latter stages. Thereafter Trainer Paddock lodged an Objection on behalf of the 3rd placed horse, OATS, against the winner. The Board, after re-viewing the Patrol Film of this incident and hearing the evidence of all the parties concerned, were of the opinion that but for the interference neither OATS or BROTHER IN ARMS would have finished in front of SIR DUKE and overruled both Objections. The result stands. The Objection fee for Trainer Paddock was refunded. However Jockey van der Merwe's deposit was declared forfeit as in the Board's opinion he had lodged a frivolous Objection. KANTAKA was hanging out from the top of the straight. SIR DUKE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: ALBARAKAH - coughing post race. CAPE SISKIN - abnormal respiratory noise.
