ANTARCTIC CALL cast its left front shoe and had to be attended to by the Farrier. ANTARCTIC CALL was stubborn loading and jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls, losing 2 to 3 lengths. Trainer Erasmus was advised to re-school this gelding prior to its next engagement. MONEY GRUBBER was slow, losing 2 to 3 lengths. MAI THAIGA was pulling hard in the early stages and hanging out throughout. Jockey Lerena was questioned with regard to the performance of SHIMMERING GEM. He explained to the Board that this gelding had failed to respond when asked for an effort in the straight. The only explanation he could offer was that this gelding was having its second after a rest. Jockey Lerena's explanation was noted. Trainer Zaki was questioned regarding the performance of SHIMMERING GEM. He explained to the Board that he was satisfied with Mr Lerena's ride and he was also felt that this horse that was having its second run after a rest, had been disappointing. Trainer Zaki has undertaken to report back to the Board should he find anything untoward on return to the stables. JET AVENGER was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: MAI THAIGA - coughing. SHIMMERING GEM - examined post race, no significant findings.
