MR PRESIDENT and DODGE CITY lost one length. WARDANDI GIRL was slow into stride. BURRWOOD was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Apprentice Dillon reported that he felt something amiss with FIRE THE ROCKET in running and as a result did not persevere with his ride in the latter stages. PROUD AS PUNCH was hanging in, in the latter stages and difficult to assist. Jockey Kennedy reported that PROUD AS PUNCH was not striding out freely in running and as a result did not persevere with his ride in the latter stages. PROUD AS PUNCH and SYLVAN JET made contact on two occasions shortly after the start. Apprentice Maleking, the rider of WARDANDI GIRL, was questioned with regard to the reason he was out of his ground in the early stages. He explained that this mare was slow away and she was out-paced in the early stages following a lengthy layoff. Apprentice Maleking was advised to take stronger and more persistent measures to encourage his mounts not to lose ground to their fields in the early stages. Vet: FIRE THE ROCKET and PROUD AS PUNCH - nothing obvious detected.
