GRAPE VINE was slow, losing one length. In view of the performance from LASTBUTNOTLEAST, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the gelding and submit a report. Jockey Cheyne reported that he felt something amiss with ZINGARO in running. ZINGARO was difficult to settle in the early stages. MAN FROM MILAN had to steady leaving the 1200m to avoid the heels of JUDD'S JOY, which shifted inwards. Jockey Orffer, the rider of JUDD'S JOY, appeared before the Board and was advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear before shifting ground in future. MAN FROM MILAN and JUDD'S JOY raced tightly approaching the 300m on the inside of CORNY AL, which rolled inwards. Shortly thereafter leaving the 300m EVENING STORM was switched outwards to continue its run off the heels of MOONLIGHT RUNNER, which led to JUDD'S JOY being severely unbalanced when buffeted between EVENING STORM and MAN FROM MILAN. Jockey van Niekerk, the rider of EVENING STORM, was charged with a contravention, in that he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to JUDD'S JOY when he shifted out at the 300m. Jockey van Niekerk signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 days. EVENING STORM was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: LASTBUTNOTLEAST and ZINGARO - inspected post race and no obvious abnormalities were detected.
