HURRICANE WIND jumped awkwardly outwards and thereafter was slow into stride. In view of the performances from HELIANE, and HURRICANE WIND, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these fillies and submit a report. Jockey van Niekerk reported that INARA returned cut into. HURRICANE WIND, which was difficult to settle in the early and middle stages, became unbalanced approaching the 1000m when it clipped the heels of INARA. HELIANE, which was following was switched outwards and carried WET AUTUMN MIST out. When questioned regarding this incident, Apprentice Carstens told the Stewards that his filly had jumped awkwardly from the stalls and he had found himself further back than intended. The filly had then continued to prove very difficult to settle. The Board noted his explanation but he was advised to ensure sufficient galloping room between his mounts and other runners where circumstances permit. INDABA was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: HELIANE and HURRICANE WIND - inspected post race and no obvious abnormalities were detected. INARA - returned cut into on both hind legs.
