CHIEF PILOT was squeezed out shortly after the start. SPECTACULAR JET was restless in the stalls. LIVELY LAD was reluctant to proceed to the start and had to be led to the start by a handler. This gelding was suspended until such time that it is presented on a racecourse, on a race day, parades and proceeds to the start to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Board. In view of the performance from ILLINOIS, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding and submit a report. Jockey Orffer reported that he felt something amiss with COUNT DRACULA in running and did not persevere with his riding in the closing stages. Jockey Domeyer reported that LAID BACK LUKE took no interest in running. BEACH BREAK was brushed leaving the 400m by WAITING FOR RAIN, which was hanging out in the straight. Apprentice Carstens, the rider of WAITING FOR RAIN, appeared before the Board and was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts to the finish. Jockey Smitsdorff, the rider of BUSHFIGHTER, was charged with a contravention, in that he weighed in at 59,1kg, which is more than 1kg above the weight at which he weighed out (58kg). Jockey Smitsdorff signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined. IMPRESSIONIST was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: ILLINOIS, COUNT DRACULA and LAID BACK LUKE - inspected post race and no obvious abnormalities were detected.
